Should English be a Medium of teaching in Higher learning in India?

All those people who have studied the psycho linguistic growth of a child are aware of the fact that language and cognitive progress are closely associated.

Researchers checked children who got education in their mother tongue and those also whose medium of learning is a language is unfamiliar to them. They found that the first group have better understanding of teaching and have better verbal skills compared with the second group.

English should be used as a Medium of Instruction in Higher Education in India because in the globalized world, it is necessary for our graduates to understand this language for a number of reasons. There are several Quality study materials that are available only in English language. A good knowledge of English helps them to communicate with the people across the world and lots of job opportunities are open to them.

Major Recommendations to Reform Education System in India:

The Indian Education system is extremely faulty and it hampers the natural educational growth of a child.  Let’s have a look at some of the main problems in India’s education system:

Lots of children in India have no access to basic education and many students leave their studies without completing it only because of financial problems,
Students of The rich and upper middle class families get education from expensive private schools and colleges wherein their sole propriety is to pass the exam anyhow, not learn useful skills and courses which are required for getting a job after completing the education,
The private and government schools are homogeneously pathetic in smaller towns and villages,
There is lack of colleges in the country also.  Because of it, several students choose correspondence education, but don’t feel motivated while sitting at home and study through the correspondence course material.
Graduates face lots of problems in the job market because of poor quality course material and teaching in the colleges as they don’t teach essential skills and techniques that are required to get a job.
Lack of stationary materials, class rooms, lab, enough teachers for all subjects etc.
Major recommendations to reform India education system:

Free of cost education to all students till Class XII:
The state and central governments should provide free of cost education to all students in India up to 12th standard regardless of their caste, religion and economic status.  This should cover free books & online study materials, mid day meal, uniform clothing and even a place to reside to all those students whose parents are unable to afford.  For this, the government needs to allocate more budgets for educational activities and spending.
Government schools should be run by private institutes under government supervision. It will help the government reduce big spending on the high salary of government teachers and will ensure that the students are getting quality education.
School and government teachers shouldn't be engaged in Non-educational activities as it affects their studies badly and they fail to perform well in the exam,
Distant learning should be promoted so that the maximum number of students can get at least basic education,
The government must make plans to introduce the application of computer and other latest technologies in the curriculum so that students face no problem to get jobs once they complete their studies,
Cast based admission and reservation in educational institutes should be completely eliminated at all cost,
The government must take immediate steps to establish more universities and colleges so that Indian students don’t go out of the country for pursuing higher education and
The medium of instruction should not be a foreign language. The entire education should be made available in the language which is in use by the people.

NEET/AIPMT Exam Pattern and Syllabus

All India Pre Medical/Dental Examination 2014 is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E.) for admission to MBBS and BDS courses for the academic session 2014 to fill 15% seats in government colleges all over india.

In 2013 instead of AIPMT, which had been happening from the past 25 years, NEET was conducted by C.B.S.E. under the control of MCI. As per the directions of Supreme Court the NEET UG exam was withheld. The ministry of HRD soon announced the admission to MBBS and BDS courses in 2014 through AIPMT (All India Pre Medical/Dental Test) to be conducted by CBSE. So in 2014 AIPMT will be held.
The syllabus and pattern for AIPMT 2014 is same as notified by the Medical Council of India for NEET UG in 2013.
AIPMT 2014 will be an offline pen and paper test.
AIPMT 2014 Exam will be of 3 hours duration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The exam will have 180 Multiple Choice Questions (45 questions from each section of Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology). For each correct answer 4 marks will be awarded and 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
To crack AIPMT with good score fundamental and conceptual knowledge of subject is very important. The preparation for AIPMT is done over a period of 2 years as the course of both the classes 11 and 12 is covered in the exam. Most of the students start preparing from class 11 itself.
Students should thoroughly go through NCERT textbooks and other preparatory guides as it helps in building strong conceptual foundation of the subject.
Cover all topics given in syllabus, avoid skipping any topic. Prepare beginning from Class 11 syllabus before moving on to Class 12. Make sure you are clear on the basic concepts.
In the beginning you should make your preparation plan and make your own notes from reliable sources it will be helped a lot to complete your syllabus during revision period and to get good score easily. You can make your Study Plan on a weekly basis; you should assigned some chapters of each subject to study each week so that you are able to end your syllabus in time.

While studying theory it is important to practice a lot of problems especially in Physics and Chemistry. The question paper contains more than 70% problems (numerical) in case of Physics and more than 50% problems (numerical) in case of Chemistry.
Time planning is very-very important. You must improve your strike rate (questions attempted correctly) through daily practice. In this exam speed is a vital subject.

Once you complete your whole syllabus practising mock test is very important, they will definitely help you in time management and your confidence will surely improve by giving mock test. Mock tests will help you in improving your Speed and Strike rate.
Follow your group students (friends who are also preparing for these exams) as it engage you in discussion with your friends and fellow students which helps in exchange of ideas and thoughts thereby upgrading knowledge about the concept/topic under discussion.
In physics mechanics, electrodynamics and modern physics are topics from which questions are more frequently asked in comparison to SHM & waves, heat & thermodynamics etc.

In chemistry from physical, organic and inorganic generally almost equal number of questions are asked.

In biology the living world, structural organs in plant and animal, plant physiology, animal physiology and reproduction , ecology, biotechnology are topics  from which questions are more frequently asked in comparison to reproduction in plants, genetics and evolution, biology in human welfare etc.

Refer previous year question papers to understand the trend of the exam. See Disha’s 26 years CBSE-PMT/ NEET solved papers.

Keep in mind the following points while attempting AIPMT exam.
·         Never attempt those questions for which you are not sure because your wrong answer will reduce your grand total. Simply leave such questions.
·         Divide the 3 hrs time as per your comfort with the subject and do not cross the time limit in each subject.
·         In first round of attempting the paper, attempt simple and those questions on which you are simply confident.
·         Then in second round, you can solve difficult questions by your alert and active mind.
